Designed for fortnightly treatments, the Duo Salon can be used immediately after shaving. If you prefer to wax or epilate, we recommend you wait up to two weeks before using your IPL device to ensure there is a hair to treat in the hair follicle.
Using our skin chart as your guide, choose one of five intensity level to ensure gentle yet effective treatments that are kind to your skin. Be sure to check intensity levels before switching from face to body treatments.
Place the Duo Salon treatment head to your skin and wait for the flashing light pulse to still. Slowly glide across the treatment area. Check your level before moving onto the next treatment area. Avoid treating the same spot multiple times.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including hair removal, photorejuvenation (e.g. the treatment of skin pigmentation, sun damage, and thread veins) as well as to alleviate dermatologic diseases.
Professional IPL is a well-researched and recognised as a safe method of hair reduction for both treatments in the salon and for use at home. Throughout years of research, there are no records of serious side effects of long-term use. Derived from the same treatments used in professional salons, HoMedics Duo Salon has adapted IPL technology for home use.
Intense Pulsed Light technology stunts the re-growth of hair follicles by delivering gentle pulses of light into the follicle beneath the skin. These light pulses are absorbed by the hair’s melanin, the effectiveness of this depends on the level of melanin in your hair. For example, light hair colours such as blond, grey and white hairs carry little or no amount of melanin. As a result, IPL treatments do not work for these types of hair colour.
In addition, IPL treatments require a low level of melanin in the skin to ensure that the skin does not absorb the light pulses. Darker skin tones have a higher level of melanin therefore, IPL treatments are suitable for these skin tones.
Using the instruction manual to guide you, Duo Salon treatments will not be painful. It is important to use the correct settings for your skin tone and hair. It’s perfectly normal to feel a warm or prickling sensation when using the device, this should cease within a few minutes. We always recommend performing a patch test before using Duo Salon for the first time, using the lowest light setting.
If you do experience pain during your treatments, it could be:
• You have used Duo Salon on unshaven skin.
• You have treated the same area repeatedly in the same session.
• You have use Duo Salon directly on open wounds, burns, tattoos etc.
• You have used Duo Salon on areas directly after applying creams, oils or lotions to the skin.
• The lighting setting you have chosen is too high for your skin tone.
No, do not use HoMedics Duo Salon on or near big moles or freckles. We recommend you treat around prominent moles and freckles and never place the treatment head directly over them.
